The province most Thai people would pick over Krabi, and most foreigners have never heard of. Trang town is a working southern city with a serious food culture, and its islands are the quiet version of everything the Andaman is famous for.

When to come, month by month.
Thailand does not have one season. Bar height is that month’s typical rainfall here, the symbol above it is the weather to expect, and the figures below it how busy it gets.
Pick a month to read it in full.
Peak season
January
The best of the year and priced accordingly. Dry, low humidity, and a sea flat enough that every island trip runs every day.

Hot
April
The hottest month, with the first afternoon storms arriving late in it. Songkran falls mid-month: a national holiday, full hotels and a great deal of water.

- 140 mm
- Conditions
- Mostly calm

Monsoon in
May
The south-west monsoon sets in and the Andaman changes character. Rain comes in heavy bursts rather than all day, but boat days start being cancelled.

Green season
June
Cheapest rooms of the year and the landscape at its greenest. Mornings are often clear; plan inland and treat a boat day as a bonus.

Green season
July
Much like June, and busier than the weather warrants because it is the European summer. Good value if you stay flexible.

Green season
August
Wet, and the outer islands are at their least reliable. The cliffs and jungle look their best under moving cloud.

Wettest
September
The wettest month of the year and the one we would talk you out of if the islands are why you are coming. Cancellations are common.
- Typical rain
- 350 mm
- Conditions
- Rough
- Crowds
- Quiet
Turning
October
Still wet, but the monsoon starts letting go towards the end and the islands reopen one by one. A gamble that sometimes pays very well.

Season opens
November
The rain drops away, the sea settles, everything reopens, and the prices have not caught up yet. For value against conditions, the best month of the twelve.

Peak season
December
Excellent weather, and the busiest fortnight of the year over Christmas and new year when rates roughly double. The first half of the month is the same weather without the surcharge.

- Moderate
Decide third
How long, and what shape.
Three shapes we actually sell. The nights are real and so is the pace — each one is a starting point we rebuild around who is travelling, not a fixed menu.
1 night · 2 days
Touch & Go
One night is the town and one island. Trang’s food is reason enough for the first, and the Emerald Cave for the second.
Day 1
Land, and eat
TST is ten minutes from town. The covered market and the old shophouses in the afternoon, and dim sum for dinner rather than after it — Trang keeps its own hours.
Day 2
The Emerald Cave
Out to Koh Mook and an eighty-metre swim through a dark limestone tunnel into a hidden beach with cliffs all around it. Back for a late flight.
The Emerald Cave swim is genuinely dark, with a guide and a life jacket, and it needs a confident swimmer. We will tell you plainly if it is not right for your group.
2 nights · 3 days
Quick Getaways
The islands most people have never heard of, and the four-island boat that links them, with one night in town for the food.
Day 1
Arrive, Trang town
The market, the shophouses, and dim sum in the morning — which is the reason to spend the first night in town at all.
Day 2
Out to the islands
Koh Ngai or Koh Kradan, and stay there. Reef straight off the sand at both, and very little else, which is the point.
Day 3
The four-island boat, then out
Koh Mook’s Emerald Cave, Koh Cheuak, Koh Ma and Koh Kradan in one loop, and back to the mainland for the flight.
Trang’s islands are the quiet version of Krabi’s: fewer boats, fewer bars, and correspondingly less to do after dark.
4 nights · 5 days
Destination Deep Dive
Four nights makes the tide work for you rather than against you — the Emerald Cave before the day boats, and the islands at their own pace.
Day 1
Arrive, Trang town
The market and the old town, and dim sum before you leave in the morning.
Day 2
Cross to Koh Kradan
The beach is the island. Settle in and let the boat traffic pass you.
Day 3
The Emerald Cave, early
Before the day boats arrive, which means the tide decides the hour and not you. Worth every part of the alarm.
Day 4
Koh Libong or Koh Ngai
Libong for the dugongs and the seagrass beds, Ngai for the reef and a shorter day. Both are quiet in a way the Andaman rarely is now.
Day 5
Back to the mainland
The Khao Kob cave by boat through the mountain, or the waterfalls inland, then TST.
Island accommodation here is simple by design. If you want a resort with three restaurants, this is the wrong province and we will say so before you book.
What you came for
Three things worth the day.
The Emerald Cave, Koh Mook
You swim 80 metres through a dark sea cave and come out in a hidden beach ringed by cliff. It needs low tide, a guide and a certain amount of nerve.
- Time
- Half day
- Needs
- Low tide, a guide
- Fee
- ฿200 / ฿100
Koh Kradan and Koh Ngai
Two of the best beaches in Thailand with a fraction of the visitors. Kradan in particular is a strip of white sand with almost nothing built on it.
- Time
- Full day or overnight
- Boat
- Longtail or speedboat
- Park fee
- ฿200 / ฿100
Trang dim sum
Southern Thailand’s Chinese-influenced breakfast, served from about six in the morning and finished by ten. This is the reason to sleep in town at least once.

When this starts India was moved to this 30-day exemption by the Thai Cabinet on 16 July 2026. It commences 15 days after the Ministry of Interior announcements are published in Thailand’s Royal Gazette. We confirm in writing which rule applies to your travel dates before you fly, and we will not let you travel on the wrong one.
Every traveller must also file the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online within 72 hours of arrival. It is free, and airlines check it at the gate — without it you will not be allowed to board.
Applies to Indian passport holders. Last reviewed 12 August 2026. Entry rules change; we confirm the current position at the time of booking.
Packages through Trang
Nothing published through here yet, which usually means the trips we run to this part of Thailand are built to order. Tell us your dates and who is travelling, and we will price one.
Plan my ThailandWorth knowing
What we would tell you on the phone.
This is not a resort province
Standards are simpler than Phuket or Samui. That is the trade for having the beach to yourself.
The Emerald Cave needs the tide
It is genuinely impassable at high water. Any operator who will not discuss the tide is not one to go with.
Boats are seasonal
Island transfers reduce sharply in the monsoon and some resorts close entirely.
Bring cash from Krabi
Card acceptance on the islands is close to nil.
Pairs well with
Where most people go next.
Koh Lanta
Two hours north and slightly more developed.
Krabi
The obvious airport pairing, and the wider range of hotels.
Hat Yai
Two and a half hours east if you are heading for the border.
Trang, built around you.
Tell us who is travelling and when. We will build the rest around the season.
